Dear Fellow Creatives,
Our team was thrilled to see our audiobook production of Mark Rosenberg's Mastering Hard Conversations quickly become #1 in Amazon's Hot New Releases in its category. Congratulations Mark! Rachael McDiarmid did a great job marketing and we absolutely do our bit to promote our authors at each stage of production.
Author Showcase - State Library of NSW
Following this success, I am interviewing Mark at an event at the State Library of NSW on 10 August - where I will talk to authors and writers about audiobook production - and Mark will discuss his experience in writing and narrating his book. This Author Showcase is developed by Jane Turner, who is a writing coach and author herself, nurturing authors to the publishing stage.
The whole event will be filmed, so watch out for future videos on our social media. If you want tickets to the event (or the morning event on 'How to Write a Non-Fiction Book”), there may be some tickets left - link below. And if you want to know more about self-narration (should you shouldn't you) listen to our interview with Wil Roach who narrated his own book - Black, Gay and Underaged.
Audition Call-out - Judy King's Agnes - Triple Launch
From our first meeting with Judy King, author of Agnes: a Childhood Betrayed and Reclaimed - we knew we were dealing with a pretty special book and an author who understand performers. This is a surprisingly joyous book - unflinching, positive and beautifully vulnerable, all at once. Details of the call-out below.
We are working closely with Ginninderra Press to produce and launch the book in time for its official Book Launch (in print and digital) in October. The race is on!
A lot more info is below, including our audiobooksradio website upgrade (easier access for you as publishers and authors); Preparing your Manuscript for Audio, and some Author PR lessons from one of our favourite authors, Terri Connellan.
More to come! And if you have any questions you want us to address - contact us!

Voice Performer Call Out - Agnes: A Childhood Betrayed and Reclaimed by Judy King
The audition call out is now open for Agnes: A Childhood Betrayed and Reclaimedby Judy King. We are proud to be producing the audio of this beautifully written book. Our Sydney locals will love all of the local scenery in this story! The book will be launched by publishers Ginninderra Press in October.
The ideal narrator has a female sounding voice, voice-aged 40s - 50s. She has an Australian accent that touches on British (the main character lived in London for many years). This is a character that has a blend of energy, curiosity, great inner strength, but also vulnerability.
We do want to offer a trigger warning for those auditioning: This text deals with childhood sexual abuse.
To submit your audition, follow this link for further details and the audition script.
If this call-out is not right for you, but you know someone with the perfect voice, please pass this email along to them.
Website Makeover
Our website has a fresh new look!
We are smitten with the work that Piccolo Media has done to make our site both more attractive and user-friendly. We hope that it will be easier for visitors to find the information they need about what we do, our past productions and how to engage with us. And hey - it's still new - so if you find some glitch - let us know and we will call on the marvellous Piccolo Media people.
We invite you to pop over and take the grand tour of our new and improved website.
Author Showcase at the State Library of NSW
Maria and Mark Rosenberg are looking forward to gracing the stage at the State Library of NSW as part of Write With Jane founder Jane Turner’s Author Showcase on 10 August. This event will be of particular interest to authors new to the field who want to learn more about publishing and publicity. We will, of course, be talking audiobooks!
For full details and to book a seat, follow this Eventbrite link. Admission is free, but bookings are necessary. We hope to see some of you there.
Production Updates
Congratulations to Mark Rosenberg, whose self-narrated audiobook Mastering Hard Conversations went to #1 on the New Releases in Business, Conflict Resolution & Mediation category on Audible!
Spotlight on Terri Connellan and her work on promoting her audiobook Wholehearted: Self Leadership for Women in Transition (narrated by Christina Percival). To see Terri’s authentic and consistent promotion of her work, have a look at her Quiet Writing Instagram and Facebook pages. We love to see authors proudly promoting their work and reaching new readers/listeners.
Question of the Month
“How do I prepare my book?”
Thank you to those who joined us on Zoom back in April for our session on producing your own audiobook. We covered a lot of territory! One question that was on the mind of participants was how to prepare their book for audiobook production. This applies to all texts, but especially ones that have things like pictures, quotes, charts/graphs, boxed text, and footnotes.
There is no one size fits all answer to this question, but there are solutions for every situation. Sometimes the answer may be creating new text to audio describe a visual element. It may involve creating a sound indicator for a particular element. Sometimes an attached PDF is the perfect solution. And, sometimes the element may be cut from the audiobook, altogether. Our goal in creating an audiobook is always to give the listener an equivalent experience to the reader, even if it is not exactly the same as the print version.
We are happy to consult with you on these elements, as we have seen them all!
If you’re interested in getting speaking to us about consulting on any stage of your audiobook or finding out about a full production, contact us via the form at the below link.
